The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a re-release of the popular adventure game called The Binding of Isaac, and it combines dungeons similar to those found in games like Zelda with the random level generation of simple yet highly difficult role-playing games.

This game is not for everyone, and it is certainly meant for an adult audience due to the nature of the game itself. The game revolves around Isaac, who has been locked in a monster-filled basement by his mother. His mother heard a message from God requesting that she sacrifice Isaac to prove her faith. This is very clearly a reference to the biblical tale, which goes to show how dark this game is going to be.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a 2D dungeon crawler similar to the Legend of Zelda, but the main difference is that each level is generated randomly, so the game is never the same twice. There are multiple floors to the basement where Isaac is trapped, and he must battle monsters using items he either finds or buys.

The original version of this game was exceptionally difficult and addictive, and that same appeal has been brought to this version. The point of the game seems to be trial and error since players often die by the claws of fierce monsters. Despite the fact that each level is random, there is enough continuity for players to learn what sort of objects and tricks they can use to advance further.

This game is essentially a remake of the original, which was limited by the Flash engine that powered it. The new engine allowed the creators to increase the scope of the game to what they originally intended. There are more objects, more rooms, and more characters, and there is even a co-op mode that lets two players work together.

Players that have already spent hours playing the original will not be able to tear themselves away from this new, updated version. The player can choose from 10 different characters, and there are more than 100 standard enemies, many of which have been either completely redesigned or are brand new for this game. There are 20 challenges and 50 final bosses that must be defeated before Isaac can leave the basement.

The graphics of Rebirth are also much more advanced than the previous version, which is due to the new game engine. The artistic styling is also darker and much less cartoonish, which helps showcase the adult themes of the game. The controls are much more like those of a shooter than a dungeon crawler, but the timing of attacks is perfectly suited for dealing with those brutal monsters. Dying as a result of a game glitch or failure isn't going to happen.

Players who love highly difficult games will adore The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. It is filled with tons of random content, so players won't ever get bored repeating levels after they have been killed by the monsters, which is going to happen.
